"Of all the new library buildings, Ernst Mayr�s is particularly striking. Standing as it does directly on Vienna�s ring road (G�rtel), one of the city�s busiest roads, on a level with the tram routes and tangent to Otto Wagner�s historical station, now serving the underground systems, the building, with its long corpus, its entrance a variation on the theme of Casa Malaparte on Capri, and its bright ceramic facade, defies its surroundings. The book presents the building as urban interaction but also in its capacity as an inviting ""library machine�, frequented daily by about 3.000 people and open to an ever-increasing number of users.
